Väčšina z nás si s battlením spája hlavne streetové štýly. Ale čo tak battle v štýle Contemporary? Pre mnohých je to nepredstaviteľná kombinácia. Contemporary Dance vidia skôr na javiskách divaiel či v iných kultúrnych projektoch. Takúto predstavu však o tom rozhodne nemali dve mladé tanečníčky z Ukrajiny Alona Danyliuk a Galyna Peha. Jedného dňa sa rozhodli tieto dva svety spojiť a výsledkom je aktuálne už 9. edícia úspešného battlu, nazývaného Contemporary duel.
Čo Vás inšpirovalo k vytvoreniu Contemporary Duelu?
Alona Danyliuk: Nechala som sa inšpirovať ľuďmi okolo seba, hlavne Galynou. Galyna reprezentuje Contemporary Dance a ja som veľa rokov aktívne battlila. Sme veľmi rozdielne ale často sme sa spolu rozprávali o tanci, živote, skrátka o všetkom a výsledkom toho bol Contemporary Duel.
Galyna Peha: Contemporary Dance pre mňa nie je iba o tanci. Je to životný štýl, spôsob akým vnímam tento svet. A keď sme rozmýšľali o tanečníkoch, ktorí nasledujú tento smer, uvedomili sme si, že pre nich momentálne neexistuje veľa príležitostí ukázať ich zručnosti. Spolu s Alonou sme preto vytvorili Contemporary Duel pre tanečníkov, ktorí reprezentujú Contemporary. Teraz je to jedinečná platforma, kde tanečníci môžu ukázať ich pohľad na vec v tanečnom battli prostredníctvom slovnej zásoboy Contemporary Dance.
Prvý Contemporary Duel sa uskutočnil 3. Apríla 2016 a ako som už vyššie sponínala, tento rok na jeseň sa odohrala už 9. edícia tohto eventu. Okrem Alony a Galyny event organizujú Maksym Kotskyi a Danya Zubkov, ale k organizácií prispievajú aj všetci ich priatelia, bez ktorých podpory by Contemporary Duel nebolo možné zrealizovať.
Naša skúsenosť s Contemporary Duelom
Na poslednú edíciu Contemporary Duelu sa vydala aj slovenská výprava Švadlen Kytaristiek, v zložení Lus Juklovej, Veroniky Prieložnej a mňa. Contemporary duel sme mali napozeraný zo socialiálnych sietí a taktiež nám tento event odporúčali všetci naši experimentálni kamoši, takže sme vedeli, že je to kvalitný event ale battle ešte prevýšil naše očakávania. Aj napriek tomu, že battliacich ľudí bolo dosť, celé sa to nieslo vo veľmi rodinnej atmosfére. Preselekciou na 1vs1 bolo 45 minút voľného priestoru pre všetkých zúčastnených, kde sa každý mohol odprezentovať akýmkoľvek spôsobom. Contemporary Duel má iba jediné pravidlo, a to že žiadne pravidlá tam neexistujú. Všetci toho patrične využili a začali sa diať veľké veci, ktoré sú pre mňa doteraz slovami ťažko popísateľné. Tanečníci odhodili všetky zábrany a vzduch bol doslova naplnený kreativitou a experimentom. Bolo tam veľmi veľa silných momentov, kedy tanečníci vytvárali doslova šialené situácie. Kategória 2vs2 sa samozrejme uberala rovnakým smerom. Okrem nezabudnuteľného mid-blowing battlu sme sa tešili aj obrovskej vítanosti zo strany organizátorov, za čo sme veľmi vďačné.
Po našej skúsenosti tento battle odporúčame každému, kto chce zažiť battle trochu inak. Taktiež sa osobne veľmi teším spojeniu Contemporary Dance s battlovou street komunitou, keďže tieto svety sú často oddelené a pritom sa toho vieme od seba navzájom veľa naučiť.
Contemporary duel
When you say the word “battle” the most of us imagine street dance styles. But what about a battle in Contemporary Dance? For many people, it is unimaginable and they can imagine Contemporary Dance just on the theatre stage or in some other cultural projects. But this kind of vision definitely wasn’t in heads of Alona Danyliuk and Galyna Peha. One day, they have decided to merge these two worlds and the result is Contemporary Duel.
What inspired you to create contemporary duel?
Alona Danyliuk: I was inspired by the people around, in particular Galyna Peha. Galyna represents contemporary dance, I battled many years before. We are very different, but we talked a lot about life, dance, about everything and as a result, created Contemporary Duel.
Galyna Peha: Contemporary dance is not just about dancing for me. It’s a lifestyle, the way I feel this entire world. And when we were thinking about dancers who follow this direction, we realized that there haven’t been so many opportunities for them to show and share their experience and way of thinking here and now. Together with Alona we have created Contemporary Duel for dancers who represent contemporary. For now, it is a unique platform where people can prove their point of view on a dance floor, facing an opponent, with a language of contemporary dance.
The first edition of Contemporary Duel was organized on the 3rd of April in 2016 and as I have mentioned before, this autumn was held the ninth edition. Except for Alona and Galyna this battle is organized by Danya Zubkov and Maksym Kotskyi but all their friends are usually helping as well, without them it would not be possible to organize this event.
Our experience with Contemporary Duel
The Slovak expedition traveled to Kyiv to become a part of the last edition of Contemporary Duel. The crew Švadleny Kytaristky now consisted of Veronika Prieložná, Lus Juklová and me. We have stalked Contemporary Duel on social media and all our experimental friends advised us to go there so we knew, that it was going to be a good event. Despite there were many battlers, the whole event was in a really familiar atmosphere. The preselection was 45 minutes of free time for everybody to express themselves however they want. Contemporary Duel has just one rule: “There are no rules.” All participants used this benefit and the big things started happening. For me, it is still really difficult to express in words what happened there. The dancers threw away all boundaries so the air was fulfilled with creativity and experiment. There were many strong moments when the participants literally went crazy. Category 2vs2 was of course in the same vibe. Except for unforgettable mind-blowing experience, we were pleased by a huge hospitality from the side of organizers, what we are really thankful for.
After our experience, we recommend this battle to everybody who wants to experience a battle differently. Personally, I am very pleased, that there is a connection of Contemporary Dance and street community because I think, that we can learn a lot from each other.
